What We’re Reading: 0-12 Months

I’ve been reading to L&H since the day they came home from the hospital.  One because it’s always seemed to be good entertainment for them – even as teeny tiny little babies I would see their eyes dart around a page – but also because to be honest, it was good entertainment for me! It’s an easy way to interact with your baby without having to “think” of topics yourself.  It’s hard to have a one-way conversation!

So if you’re in search of some good reads for you and your baby check out this list of my favorite books for when L&H were 0-12 months.  I’ve also got posts about my favorite books for 12-18 months and 18-24 months.  We do a lot of reading, and our collection is constantly growing!

Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae

We received this book as a gift for L&H along with two adorable jungle themed outfits.  It was such a sweet present.  While the outfits fit the twins for a blink, this book has stuck around for many many readings.  I like that it is a story, vs many of the other infant books we have which are just simple pictures or colors.  It entertained me along with the twins! Available on Amazon for $5.

Alphaprint: ABC by Rodger Priddy

This book is a hit with L&H. The pictures are big and textured – they love to look and feel every page. Plus the rhymes are fun! This is on my list of go-to gifts for new parents and babies. Available on Amazon for $7.

Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle

A bestseller on Amazon, I’d be shocked if this wasn’t gifted as a baby gift — but still worth nothing because if you don’t have it, you should.  I love the rhymes, the pictures are cute, and it’s a good start to teaching animal sounds.  Plus the lesson is a good one! Available on Amazon for $8.

God Bless You and Goodnight by Hannah Hall

We were gifted this book for L&H’s Christening, and it quickly became a favorite.  It’s a sweet read – a cute, rhyming story with beautiful illustrations.  A great read for bedtime or anytime.  Available on Amazon for $8.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Caroline Jayne Church

This was THE first book I read L&H.  I can remember their little infant eyes darting around, probably because of the shiny cover.  Maybe it was my imagination, but I like to think they were taking it all in.  I think this will be a favorite when L&H are older too – an easy, read-by-myself option.  Available on Amazon for $7.

Peek A Who by Nina Laden

This book has nearly 1,200 5 star reviews on Amazon, so it’s clearly popular and for good reason.  Perfect for itty bittys its full of bright pictures and perfect first words.  Plus the mirror on the last page is a fan-favorite with L&H.  They like to smoosh right on up there and give themselves a close look.  Available on Amazon for $7.
