Recap: Week of 3/13

Winter came to Philadelphia last week – and it was beautiful annoying. I hate to be such a grouch, but when the calendar flipped to March and we already had several 50+ degree days, I was DONE with winter.  It had missed its chance in my opinion.

But alas, Mother Nature is way more powerful than I – and what she says goes.  So we got snow.  All in all, it wasn’t so bad. The predictions ranged from 3 inches all the way up to 12 inches.  Turns out we got about 4 inches of snow then lots of sleet and rain.  It turned the city into an icy mess.

I am always in awe of other runners I see on social media running through the snow, they seem so hardcore.  For me, I am too much of a wimp….and way too scared I’ll fall and break a bone.  So I ponied up and bought some day passes to our local gym and put in some miles on the treadmill.  Thankfully by my long run on Saturday the snow/ice had mostly cleared and I was able to run outside.  I don’t think I would have been able to pull off 12 miles on the treadmill….so phew!

My long run was my favorite run of the week.  I took it slow and steady, in contrast to the previous weeks’ long run which I ran at a little faster than goal pace. My goal for the run was distance not pace.  I averaged a 9:38 min/mile pace.  I was steady for nearly the whole run, but I did throw in two faster paced miles at 9 and 10, just to give my legs a taste of working hard while fatigued.

Only a few days left until half marathon! This will be half #6 for me….but my first one in nearly 2 years! And first since the twins.  I’m starting to get pre race jitters, and also taper time crazies….thinking I am getting sick, feeling out of shape, etc.  Fingers crossed that all goes away as I line up at the starting line 🙂
