I was way overdue for new sneakers – so finally Chris and I walked up to Philadelphia Runner to each get some new kicks.
I have been an avid Asics GT-2000 fan for over 3 years, but I must have bought the last pair last year because they are all officially gone. The updated pair, the Asics GT-2000 4, promises to be “the same but better” was not for me. I found the toe box to be quite small. My foot felt quite squished, even after trying on a half size larger than my normal pair. And the base of the shoe felt way too small for the actual shoe. Hard to explain, but it felt almost as if the foundation was too small and I could topple over at any point.
So, clearly the Asics GT-2000 4 was not the shoe for me. It’s disappointing since I loved the GT-2000 2s so much, but I suppose all good things must come to an end eventually.
I tried and walked out with the Mizuno Wave Inspire 13. A new release by Mizuno, the Wave Inspire 13 offers “firm yet reliable cushioning for runners with a mild to moderate overpronated foot motion”. So, on paper that’s perfect for me. I need cushioning (I have struggled with shin splints and a stress fracture in the past), and I overpronate.
After a brief jog on Philly Runner’s treadmill and a spin around the store, I’m feeling excited and ready to pound the pavement in my new kicks! I’ll be sure to share more thoughts after I’ve taken a few runs in them.
